You may have noticed that I haven't written a blog for a while - largely due to being busy BUT I want to keep you updated with some exciting news and have a chat about nutrition and enjoying food and fitness.
So, both food and fitness should be FUN!! They are about keeping us healthy and well so I'd like to let you know about a couple of things that you can do to improve the enjoyment of both whilst staying healthy!
Fitness shouldn't be a chore.
So many of us use exercise as punishment (for food!) or as a 'have to be skinny' etc. when it should really be about being able to move freely and maintain health whilst enjoying what we are capable of doing and enjoying life itself. Some of my clients recently have loved it when I have been through my approach to exercise with them (and found the calisthenics/yoga base FUN yet challenging) so we're working on handstands and pull-ups with some interesting movements moved in. With this in mind I am starting two new exercise classes in Didcot to address two key problem areas in the traditional exercise approach:
1. Problem one - Exercise classes are non accessible and do not cater to those who may have mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
THE ANSWER: MOVEMENT FOR POSITIVE MOOD - a fun class based on helping people to get out and about and start to release some endorphins - keeping each other sane and enjoying being able to move in a supportive outdoor environment. Suitable for all levels of fitness this is an outdoor class, buggies welcome, any fitness level welcome. First taster class is at 11:30am on 9th May meeting outside Great Western Community Centre, Didcot.
2. Problem two - exercise focused on getting a more aesthetically pleasing physique or a focus on high intensity sweating/weights etc. rather than on being more free to move as well as strong and injury-free.
THE ANSWER: FUNCTIONAL FITNESS - again a fun class but this time using a mixture of yoga/calisthenics movement, stretching and bodyweight strength to improve mobility, strength and flexibility and as a response to the injuries I see as a massage therapist! I am just arranging a venue and time for this so keep an eye out here or on Facebook for upcoming dates and times.
Food should be healthy but tasty!
I have seen so many restrictive diets recently that cut out all manner of things and are bland. It can be hard to be healthy and to eat healthily when pushed for time and trying to reach goals (whether these are performance or weight loss/maintenance) but it CAN be done. So what can you do if you don't have the time to prep your own meals? Why not ask me about what my amazing friend Pippa Hamwee is up to?! She is creating a prepped food delivery that specialises in healthy, tasty low carb, high protein food that TASTES AMAZING!! If you're interested in finding out more then please get in touch (maybe opportunities for tasters) with me or go straight to the source (sauce if you pardon the pun) and email firstname.lastname@example.org or check out @pippahamweefood on instagram.
Who wouldn't like prepped meals that are not chicken rice and broccoli but instead include options such as jerk chicken; mango and avocado salsa; salad nicoise; casserole etc. and includes vegetarian, vegan or meat options at an affordable price?!
So whether it's food, fitness or a massage that you need remember to look after yourself and enjoy life...it's short, make the most of it!!
